The rules

Written down properly because the law asks us to, and because it saves arguments. Together with the terms of use and the privacy policy, this is the "rules and regulations, privacy policy and user agreement" we publish under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

The spirit

M IN is for meeting real people over small plans. Four habits cover most of it: be real, meet in public, respect a no, and treat people the way you'd want to be treated at a stranger's table.

  • Be real. Your own name, your own recent photos, one account per person. Host only plans you'll turn up to.
  • Meet in public. First meetings happen in public places. No plans at private homes with people you've just met.
  • Respect a no. A declined request, an ignored wave, someone leaving a chat or blocking you: none of it needs chasing.
  • Keep money out of chat. Never ask for or send payments, OTPs, bank or card details in a chat. We'll never ask for them either.

What's not allowed

You must not host, post, share, send, store or otherwise put on M IN anything that:

  • belongs to someone else and you don't have the right to share;
  • is defamatory, obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, or invades someone's privacy, including their bodily privacy;
  • is insulting or harassing on the basis of gender, or is racially or ethnically objectionable;
  • encourages money laundering, gambling or betting, or is otherwise unlawful;
  • harms a child in any way;
  • infringes a patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right;
  • breaks any law currently in force in India;
  • deceives or misleads people about where a message came from, or knowingly spreads false or misleading information, including misinformation dressed up as fact;
  • impersonates another person, or pretends to be M IN or a member of our team;
  • threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign states, or public order; incites an offence; or insults another nation;
  • contains software viruses, malware or code designed to interrupt, destroy or limit how any computer or app works;
  • is false and untrue, and is written or published with intent to mislead or harass a person, entity or agency for financial gain or to cause injury.

On top of the law, we also don't allow these, because M IN doesn't work without trust:

  • Harassment and hate. Abuse, threats, slurs, sexual content, unwanted advances, or contacting someone who has asked you to stop.
  • Fake plans and fake people. Plans you won't attend, made-up locations, borrowed photos, multiple accounts, or lying about your age.
  • Selling and spam. Advertising, promotion, recruiting, multi-level marketing, or posting the same plan again and again.
  • Payments and scams. Asking for payment to join a plan, requesting OTPs or bank details, or moving people to another app to "confirm".
  • Dangerous plans. Anything illegal, anything that puts people at risk, or plans at private homes with strangers.
  • Sharing without consent. Screenshots of private chats, other people's photos or contact details, or anyone's live location.

If you break them

  • We may remove the content or plan, hold your photos for review, restrict what your account can do, or suspend it.
  • Serious cases (threats, sexual content, scams, anything involving a minor) mean an immediate, permanent removal.
  • Repeat violators lose access. If you've been warned or suspended before and it happens again, your account is closed and you may not create another one.
  • We hand over information to law enforcement when the law requires it. We can only share what we have; we cannot read encrypted messages.
  • If you think we got it wrong, write to the Grievance Officer below. We'll look again.

Reporting

Report a person, a plan or a message from the three-dots menu or by long-pressing a message. Shake your phone anywhere in the app to send a general report. The person you report is not told who reported them. You can also email the Grievance Officer directly.
